Most of the time, the difference between meal and flour is a difference of degree: meal is just coarser flour, and flour is finer meal. Flour is the finest grind you can get. Meal is the next finest grind coarser than flour, finer than grits. They both great for baking and they can often be used interchangeably, with some exceptions based on the recipe.
